March 2008

So I am patiently waiting to depart PDX for Cincinnati, and like all good United flights it has been delayed. While I wait can’t help but notice that the majority of those who travel on Sunday are business-types, like myself, I find it amusing that many wear their business suits as if they are walking right in to a meeting upon arrival. Now I understand that if I was waiting for a red-eye flight, this is not uncommon, but early on a Sunday? Seriously, pull out the jeans and t-shirt, it won’t hurt!

Good evening, well efforts on migrating to a new Gallery website are progressing. The move was triggered by a routing issue with Comcast affecting Washington customers who get a “No route to host” error when trying to connect, all other networks are fine. Trying to explain a routing problem to their tech support is like to trying to discuss arithmetic to a pidgin, they just bob their heads. Anyway, the new site will be:

I am in the middle of migrating 21GB of data over to it, so needless to say do not expect any content to be posted until at least late Friday.

UPDATE 3/27/08 7:37p: Progress continues on the mass upload, slowly but surely. Again hopefully by tomorrow night or Saturday night at the latest this site will be fully functional.

Well finally after much slacking, I finally got around to moving sites. Colossus, my home-based web and mail server, had served us well for years. Unfortunately, due to Comcast’s continued crack down on people who the internet service for what it is intended, it has become increasingly more difficult to maintain the services I enjoy. Natalie introduced me to DreamHost, which offers over 500GB storage and 5.0TB of bandwidth for super cheap (< $8/month). So this is Phase 1 of the move, the next Phase will involve me moving our family photo gallery to a yet undecided site. I will keep everyone updated on the moves.

My new website, “Travels to the Edge of Insanity”, was originally intended to provide commentary on where I travel for business and pleasure. My job does provide me the opportunity to see the country, and travel internationally. My intention is not only offer the reader stories of these travels, but insight into other topics that I find most fascinating or utterly disturbing. :-)
